And Davidsaid, I willshewkindnessuntoHanun the son of Nahash, because his fathershewedkindness to me. And Davidsentmessengers to comfort him concerning his father. So the servants of Davidcameinto the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
But the princes of the children of Ammonsaid to Hanun, ThinkestthouthatDaviddothhonour thy father, that he hathsentcomfortersuntothee? are not his servantscomeuntothee for to search, and to overthrow, and to spy out the land?
And when the children of Ammon saw thatthey had madethemselvesodious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammonsent a thousandtalents of silver to hirethemchariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syriamaachah, and out of Zobah.
So theyhiredthirty and two thousandchariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitchedbeforeMedeba. And the children of Ammongatheredthemselvestogetherfromtheircities, and came to battle.
And when the Syrians saw thattheywere put to the worsebeforeIsrael, theysentmessengers, and drewforth the Syriansthatwerebeyond the river: and Shophach the captain of the host of Hadarezerwentbeforethem.
And it was toldDavid; and he gathered all Israel, and passedoverJordan, and cameuponthem, and set the battle in arrayagainstthem. So whenDavid had put the battle in arrayagainst the Syrians, theyfoughtwith him.
