ThencameShemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, thatweregatheredtogether to Jerusalembecause of Shishak, and saiduntothem, Thussaith the LORD, Ye haveforsaken me, and thereforehave I alsoleft you in the hand of Shishak.
And when the LORD saw thattheyhumbledthemselves, the word of the LORDcame to Shemaiah, saying, Theyhavehumbledthemselves; therefore I will not destroythem, but I willgrantthemsomedeliverance; and my wrathshall not be poured out uponJerusalem by the hand of Shishak.
So Shishakking of Egyptcame up againstJerusalem, and tookaway the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king’shouse; he took all: he carriedawayalso the shields of goldwhichSolomon had made.
So kingRehoboamstrengthenedhimself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and fortyyears old when he began to reign, and he reignedseventeenyears in Jerusalem, the citywhich the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his namethere. And his mother’sname was Naamah an Ammonitess.
