If brethrendwelltogether, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the deadshall not marrywithoutunto a stranger: her husband’sbrothershall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’sbrotherunto her.
And if the man like not to take his brother’swife, then let his brother’swife go up to the gateunto the elders, and say, My husband’sbrotherrefuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband’sbrother.
Thenshall his brother’swifecomeunto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoefrom off his foot, and spit in his face, and shallanswer and say, So shall it be doneuntothat man thatwill not build up his brother’shouse.
When men strivetogether one withanother, and the wife of the one drawethnear for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him thatsmiteth him, and puttethforth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hathgiventheerestfrom all thineenemiesroundabout, in the landwhich the LORD thy God giveththee for an inheritance to possess it, thatthoushaltblot out the remembrance of Amalekfromunderheaven; thoushalt not forget it.
