Thenstood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offerburntofferingsthereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.
Theygavemoneyalsounto the masons, and to the carpenters; and meat, and drink, and oil, untothem of Zidon, and to them of Tyre, to bringcedartreesfromLebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the grantthatthey had of Cyrusking of Persia.
Now in the secondyear of theircomingunto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the secondmonth, beganZerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of theirbrethren the priests and the Levites, and all theythatwerecome out of the captivityuntoJerusalem; and appointed the Levites, fromtwentyyears old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the LORD.
ThenstoodJeshuawith his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, withtheirsons and theirbrethren the Levites.
And when the builderslaid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, they set the priests in theirapparelwithtrumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaphwithcymbals, to praise the LORD, after the ordinance of Davidking of Israel.
And theysangtogether by course in praising and givingthanksunto the LORD; because he is good, for his mercyendureth for evertowardIsrael. And all the peopleshoutedwith a greatshout, whentheypraised the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.
But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who wereancient men, that had seen the firsthouse, when the foundation of thishouse was laidbeforetheireyes, weptwith a loudvoice; and manyshoutedaloud for joy:
