Therefore go thou, and read in the roll, whichthouhastwrittenfrom my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’Shouseupon the fasting day: and alsothoushaltreadthem in the ears of all Judahthatcome out of theircities.
And it came to pass in the fifthyear of Jehoiakim the son of Josiahking of Judah, in the ninthmonth, thattheyproclaimed a fastbefore the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the peoplethatcamefrom the cities of JudahuntoJerusalem.
ThenreadBaruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the highercourt, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’Shouse, in the ears of all the people.
Then he wentdowninto the king’shouse, into the scribe’schamber: and, lo, all the princes sat there, evenElishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.
Therefore all the princessentJehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, untoBaruch, saying, Take in thinehand the rollwhereinthouhastread in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriahtook the roll in his hand, and cameuntothem.
And it came to pass, thatwhenJehudi had readthree or fourleaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the firethat was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the firethat was on the hearth.
And thoushalt say to Jehoiakimking of Judah, Thussaith the LORD; Thouhastburnedthisroll, saying, Why hastthouwrittentherein, saying, The king of Babylonshallcertainlycome and destroythisland, and shallcause to ceasefromthence man and beast?
And I willpunish him and his seed and his servants for theiriniquity; and I willbringuponthem, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evilthat I havepronouncedagainstthem; but theyhearkened not.
ThentookJeremiahanotherroll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrotethereinfrom the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the bookwhichJehoiakimking of Judah had burned in the fire: and therewereaddedbesidesuntothemmanylikewords.
