Now it came to pass in the seventhmonth, thatIshmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the seedroyal, and the princes of the king, even ten men with him, cameuntoGedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and therethey did eat breadtogether in Mizpah.
ThenaroseIshmael the son of Nethaniah, and the ten men thatwerewith him, and smoteGedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphanwith the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Babylon had madegovernorover the land.
ThattherecamecertainfromShechem, fromShiloh, and fromSamaria, evenfourscore men, havingtheirbeardsshaven, and theirclothesrent, and having cut themselves, withofferings and incense in theirhand, to bringthem to the house of the LORD.
But ten men werefoundamongthemthatsaiduntoIshmael, Slay us not: for we havetreasures in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he forbare, and slewthem not amongtheirbrethren.
Now the pit whereinIshmael had cast all the deadbodies of the men, whom he had slainbecause of Gedaliah, was it which Asa the king had made for fear of Baashaking of Israel: and Ishmael the son of Nethaniahfilled it withthemthatwereslain.
ThenIshmaelcarriedawaycaptive all the residue of the peoplethatwere in Mizpah, even the king’sdaughters, and all the peoplethatremained in Mizpah, whomNebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam: and Ishmael the son of Nethaniahcarriedthemawaycaptive, and departed to go over to the Ammonites.
