Thussaith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye haveseen all the evilthat I havebroughtuponJerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwelleththerein,
Therefore now thussaith the LORD, the God of hosts, the God of Israel; Whereforecommit ye thisgreatevilagainstyoursouls, to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah, to leave you none to remain;
In that ye provoke me untowrathwith the works of yourhands, burningincenseuntoothergods in the land of Egypt, whither ye be gone to dwell, that ye might cut yourselves off, and that ye might be a curse and a reproachamong all the nations of the earth?
Have ye forgotten the wickedness of yourfathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of theirwives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of yourwives, whichtheyhavecommitted in the land of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem?
And I willtake the remnant of Judah, thathave set theirfaces to go into the land of Egypt to sojournthere, and theyshall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; theyshalleven be consumed by the sword and by the famine: theyshall die, from the leastevenunto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and theyshall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.
So thatnone of the remnant of Judah, which are goneinto the land of Egypt to sojournthere, shallescape or remain, thattheyshouldreturninto the land of Judah, to the whichtheyhave a desire to return to dwellthere: for noneshallreturn but such as shallescape.
Then all the men whichknewthattheirwives had burnedincenseuntoothergods, and all the womenthatstood by, a greatmultitude, even all the peoplethatdwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answeredJeremiah, saying,
But we willcertainly do whatsoeverthinggoethforth out of our own mouth, to burnincenseunto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drinkofferingsunto her, as we havedone, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and werewell, and saw no evil.
The incensethat ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and yourfathers, yourkings, and yourprinces, and the people of the land, did not the LORDrememberthem, and came it not into his mind?
So that the LORDcould no longerbear, because of the evil of yourdoings, and because of the abominationswhich ye havecommitted; therefore is yourland a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.
Because ye haveburnedincense, and because ye havesinnedagainst the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; thereforethisevil is happenedunto you, as at this day.
Thussaith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and yourwiveshavebothspokenwithyourmouths, and fulfilledwithyourhand, saying, We willsurelyperform our vowsthat we havevowed, to burnincense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drinkofferingsunto her: ye willsurelyaccomplishyourvows, and surelyperformyourvows.
Thereforehear ye the word of the LORD, all Judahthatdwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I havesworn by my greatname, saith the LORD, that my nameshall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.
Yet a smallnumberthatescape the swordshallreturn out of the land of Egyptinto the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are goneinto the land of Egypt to sojournthere, shallknowwhosewordsshallstand, mine, or theirs.
Thussaith the LORD; Behold, I willgivePharaohhophraking of Egyptinto the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of themthatseek his life; as I gaveZedekiahking of Judahinto the hand of Nebuchadrezzarking of Babylon, his enemy, and thatsought his life.
