ThatHanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I askedthemconcerning the Jewsthat had escaped, whichwereleft of the captivity, and concerningJerusalem.
And theysaidunto me, The remnantthat are left of the captivitythere in the province are in greataffliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalemalso is brokendown, and the gatesthereof are burnedwithfire.
And said, I beseechthee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, thatkeepethcovenant and mercy for themthatlove him and observe his commandments:
Let thine ear now be attentive, and thineeyesopen, thatthoumayesthear the prayer of thy servant, which I praybeforethee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we havesinnedagainstthee: both I and my father’shousehavesinned.
But if ye turnunto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; thoughtherewere of you cast out unto the uttermostpart of the heaven, yet will I gatherthemfromthence, and willbringthemunto the placethat I havechosen to set my namethere.
O Lord, I beseechthee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I praythee, thy servantthis day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’scupbearer.
