The vision of Obadiah. Thussaith the Lord GOD concerningEdom; We haveheard a rumourfrom the LORD, and an ambassador is sentamong the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.
The pride of thinehearthathdeceivedthee, thouthatdwellest in the clefts of the rock, whosehabitation is high; thatsaith in his heart, Who shallbring me down to the ground?
If thievescame to thee, if robbers by night, (how art thou cut off!) wouldthey not havestolentillthey had enough? if the grapegathererscame to thee, wouldthey not leavesomegrapes?
All the men of thy confederacyhavebroughttheeeven to the border: the men thatwere at peacewiththeehavedeceivedthee, and prevailedagainstthee; theythat eat thy breadhavelaid a woundunderthee: there is noneunderstanding in him.
In the day thatthoustoodest on the otherside, in the day that the strangerscarriedawaycaptive his forces, and foreignersenteredinto his gates, and castlotsuponJerusalem, eventhouwast as one of them.
But thoushouldest not havelooked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neithershouldestthouhaverejoicedover the children of Judah in the day of theirdestruction; neithershouldestthouhavespokenproudly in the day of distress.
Thoushouldest not haveenteredinto the gate of my people in the day of theircalamity; yea, thoushouldest not havelooked on theiraffliction in the day of theircalamity, nor havelaidhands on theirsubstance in the day of theircalamity;
Neithershouldestthouhavestood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neithershouldestthouhavedelivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress.
For as ye havedrunkupon my holymountain, so shall all the heathendrinkcontinually, yea, theyshalldrink, and theyshallswallowdown, and theyshall be as thoughthey had not been.
And the house of Jacobshall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and theyshallkindle in them, and devourthem; and thereshall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORDhathspoken it.
And they of the southshallpossess the mount of Esau; and they of the plain the Philistines: and theyshallpossess the fields of Ephraim, and the fields of Samaria: and BenjaminshallpossessGilead.
And the captivity of thishost of the children of Israelshallpossessthat of the Canaanites, evenuntoZarephath; and the captivity of Jerusalem, which is in Sepharad, shallpossess the cities of the south.
